Get to know a little more about the people across the Kingswood Community in our new #WeAreKingswood Q&A series.

In our first profile, we catch up with our departing Head of Drama, Catherine Nash, who has inspired so many pupils for the past 16 years, as she reflects on her time at Kingswood and give us her answer to the big question: Tea or coffee?...

Your career journey so far

In another life, what would your career have been?

I have a law degree so could have ended up embroiled in the drama of the court room! However, if I’d had the same access to careers help and information that students do now I would like to have been a stage manager – contrary to the stereotype, I’m far more comfortable off stage than on!

How long have you been at Kingswood?

Since 2005 – 16 years! It feels like a lifetime but it’s passed by in the blink of an eye! I’m leaving this year to be Head of Department at St Laurence School in Bradford on Avon and it feels like I’m leaving home all over again.

Life at Kingswood

How would you describe Kingswood School to family and friends?

Kingswood is a way of life – you can fight it but you will get the most out of it if you give it everything you’ve got.

How would you describe being part of the Kingswood Community?

It sounds like a cliché but it’s absolutely true – Kingswood is a family. Sometimes you love them, sometimes they annoy you but you are all there looking out for each other no matter what happens.

A bit about you

If your younger self could see you now, what would they think?

I loved the Mallory Towers books by Enid Blyton about life at an amazing boarding school for the protagonist, Darrell Rivers. My younger self would be thrilled to see I’ve worked in the real life version – I even got to work with someone called Darrell!!

A bit of advice

If you could give one piece of life advice to a young person, what would it be?

Stop worrying about the future or what people think of you or your perceived shortcomings. Live life honestly and to the full and get the most out of this amazing school while you can.
