Prep Admissions Process
Entrance to Kingswood Prep School
We are delighted that you are considering Kingswood Prep School for your child. The main joining years for KPS are at Nursery, Reception and Year 3, when the number of classes increases to three. However, applications can be considered to other years groups at any time, where space is available. The exception is Year 6, where applications are generally only considered for the start of the school year. Use our handy tool below to confirm the year of entry for your child.
Start Your Journey
To ensure that your child will thrive at KPS, offers will be made to pupils who are most suited to the style of education that Kingswood provides, which supports academic success while nurturing wider skills and interests.
The Headmaster will consider a number of factors, including, where applicable, entrance assessment papers, school reports and personal interviews. No child will be disadvantaged in any of the admissions procedures based on disability, religion or ethnicity. All admissions are made in accordance with the School Admissions Policy, which can be viewed below.
The basic outline of the process of entry to Kingswood Prep School is as follows:
Enquiry and initial visit
Following your enquiry to the Admissions Team, you will be invited to meet the Head and tour the school. Enquiries can be made using our enquiry form here or via email to Rebecca Sharp at [email protected].
For those applying for places in Reception to Year 2, your child will spend the morning in the classroom where class teachers will undertake age appropriate assessments.
Those applying for entry into Years 3 to 6 will undertake papers in Maths, English and Non-Verbal Reasoning. These papers are usually taken at KPS, although they may be sat at the child’s current school (in the UK) or with a registered agent or the British Council if overseas.
Further information on the Entrance Assessments can be found here: Kingswood Prep School Entrance Assessments
Offer of a place
Successful students will receive the offer of a place in writing, typically within one week of the assessment.
Acceptance of a place
The place should be accepted by returning a completed acceptance form and paying the acceptance deposit. The deadline for this acceptance will be confirmed by the Prep School registrar.
New pupils will be invited to attend the Prep School’s 'Moving on up Morning' in the Summer Term, to meet their new class and teacher.
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact our Lower School and Prep Registrar, Rebecca Sharp, who can be contacted on +44 1225 734462 or by email at [email protected], and who will be happy to help you.
Progression to the Senior School
Although the vast majority of children progress from the Prep School to the Senior School, this is not guaranteed. KPS children wishing to attend Kingswood Senior School will complete the same Year 7 assessments as children applying from other schools. To find out more about about this process visit our Senior School Admissions Process page.
Kingswood Prep School is very much a family-orientated school and wherever possible, the Headmaster will seek to offer places to siblings as a priority. This is provided that Kingswood Prep School is the right school for each individual child and that each child has met the entrance requirements.
We maintain a waiting list for late applications, which will be considered if places become available.
