We are incredibly proud to be a STEM Racing (formally F1 in Schools) Centre of Excellence, one of 13 across the UK.

On the penultimate week of term, we hosted the South West Regional Finals, welcoming 175 students from schools across the region to race their cars down the 20-metre track as well as showcasing their wider project work to the judges, including engineering, branding, marketing and sponsorship efforts.

Team Impetus from Kingswood and Nexus GP from Kingswood Prep took first place in their categories, making them Regional Champions and qualifying them for the National Finals in Sheffield next year alongside Fire Foxes, another Kingswood Prep team whose third place finish also qualified them for Nationals.

We were also thrilled to welcome back Old Kingswoodian Bailey Voisin, who is a professional racing driver currently competing in the European Le Mans Series with United Autosports. Bailey dropped in to offer his support to all the teams competing, and gave an inspirational speech to kickstart the proceedings on the Senior day.

Adam, Upper Sixth, Team Leader for Impetus (Regional Champions in the Professional Class) said: “We couldn’t be happier, it will be our second time getting through to nationals and we’re really hoping to win this time around! We work really well together as a team. We are strong in our individual areas, but collaboration is key and so important in the competition.”

Kingswood joined STEM Racing as a Centre of Excellence earlier this year, offering expert guidance, hands-on workshops and full manufacturing services for STEM Racing cars to ensure South West teams have the resources they need to compete, learn and excel. Open to all surrounding schools, we support students in bringing their cars to life, regardless of background or experience.

Congratulations to The Crypt School, Colyton Grammar School and Sandroyd School whose teams also made qualification for the nationals. We look forward to seeing you all in Sheffield!
