Prep Art

As part of their summer project last term, children in Years 5 and 6 created “Selfie” Tile Portraits from Earthenware clay to celebrate the arrival of a new kiln at the Prep School.

The children were tasked with creating two tiles, one to stay at the Prep School and the other to take home as a memento of their time producing ceramic artwork.

Initially, the children worked from a selfie and then printed the black outline on to wet clay, before scraping the image into the clay.

Once satisfied with their image, the tile was biscuit fired and the pupils applied a variety of colourful Earthenware glazes to their tiles.

After firing the tiles for a final time, the children were left with a wonderful piece to take home.

A vibrant record of budding ceramics artists will be exhibited at the Prep School.
