Last Tuesday, four Year 8 pupils went to Bath University to participate in the Salters’ Institute Festival of Chemistry, competing against eight other schools.

They completed two practical challenges. The first requiring a series of experiments to solve clues and match certain substances to catch a thief and the second involving mixing chemicals to cool solution to exactly 10.5 degrees Celsius.

The pupils worked extremely well as a team and were awarded second place.

As well as the competition, pupils were treated to a ‘bangs and flashes’ demonstration by the University’s Chemistry lecturers and a good time was had by all.
