The Summerhill Singers Choir displayed their vocal talents after performing in a concert to commemorate the One Hundredth Anniversary of the end of the First World War.

The concert was held in Bath Abbey on Friday 9th November where the children sang with four other schools alongside an orchestra and narrator.

‘When The War Came’ was written especially for these choirs and told the story of a group of children who grew up during the war.

The story explored the sights and sounds of war, of love and friendship, of the reality of how young the soldiers were, and the joy of those who returned, coupled with the heartbreak of those who did not.

It was a difficult piece and some of the youngest choir members only had half a term to learn it all.

The piece was over 40 minutes in length, during which time the choir concentrated professionally and sang brilliantly.

This was a serious concert and the choir demonstrated mature engagement and understanding of the content of songs they were singing.

The concert was a fitting tribute to those who gave their lives not just in the First World War, but in wartime ever since then.
