Twenty-four Year 8 students attended the Faraday Challenge STEM Day last Wednesday organised by the Institute of Engineering and Technology and hosted at Kingswood School.

This is a countrywide competition that aims at promoting and encouraging budding young engineers and challenging them with real life scenarios.

Pupils were tasked with designing and modelling something that could help aid workers in the context of a natural disaster.

The teams had to plan, budget, develop, construct and present their ideas to the rest of the groups and the engineers.

There was stiff competition from the competing schools; St Mark’s and St Gregory’s came up with some innovative and creative ideas.

However, the Kingswood team consisting of Monty, Charlie, Orla, Leo, Sophia and Eleanor were victorious with their solar powered drone prototype and we wait to see if the score they achieved will put them in the national finals this Summer.

All of the students behaved impeccably and worked extremely hard for the duration of the day - they were a credit to themselves and the School.
