Kingswood is fortunate to have a well-equipped Medical Centre that is staffed 24 hours a day during term time by a team of dedicated, well-trained and professional staff. The Nurses have a wide range of experience in ailments including asthma, diabetes, allergies and sporting or other minor injuries.
The Resident Sister, Mrs Helen Skinner RGN RSCN, is supported by Nurses Miss Laura Johnson RN Child and Miss Michelle Vine RN Child. Mrs Rachel Orledge helps as the Medical Centre Assistant.
The Medical Centre includes a treatment room, consulting room and waiting area. Pupils are able to stay in the Medical Centre if they are unwell. There are four beds for boys, three for girls and a single room that can be used for isolation if necessary. Students can directly access daily routine clinics, and the Medical Centre is available in case of medical emergencies. The Medical Centre also plays an important role in the standard of pastoral care at Kingswood, and the nursing staff are always available to support students.
Doctors from Oldfield Surgery hold surgeries at Kingswood twice a week, on Monday and Friday mornings. All boarders are registered with this surgery. Students are able to choose whether the doctor they see will be male or female. If pupils need to be seen by a doctor between these visits, the Medical Centre Assistant will take them to the surgery in Oldfield Park.
As well as caring for sick and injured students, the Nurses also offer health screenings, travel advice, immunisation and vaccination programmes, support for parents and staff and student counselling. There is a confidential mental health support service provided by Off the Record available on Fridays. The centre also organises hospital, dental, orthodontic and other appointments. You can contact the Medical Centre via the contact form.
