On Saturday, Kingswood hosted a Junior Athletics meet against St Mary’s, Calne for both the Year 7 and 8 girls.

It was a wonderful afternoon with two  competitors from each school competing on the track and on the field.

Congratulations to Daisy N who stood out in the 200m and Ellie who won the 800m.

In Year 8, Clemmie competed well, in particular in the Discus and Daisy B impressed in the sprints.

The Girls were two points behind before the relays but Kingswood were eventual winners and won by three points.

Meanwhile, in the Seniors, the Girls entered two teams (U16 and U20) to compete in their biggest meet of the season at Millfield against a number of other schools.

The competition was fierce and the Girls competed with great character.

Sonia enjoyed a great race in the 100m, coming 2nd, Ellie won the 800m with Lizzie close behind.

Zoe ran an excellent 100m and together with Sonia, Ciara and Sterling, the Girls came a close second in the 4x100m relay.

Mia, Jasmine, Toyosi and Ellie ran a fantastic 4x100m relay and were delighted to have come third.

In the Boys’ competition, Kingswood landed a number of podium finishes, but the two stand out performances came in the U16 and U17 800m.

In the U16 race, Frankie tore away from the field at the start and ran powerfully to keep the high calibre field at bay.

On the final straight, there was a hard push from another athlete, but Frankie showed amazing grit and determination to cross the line in first place.

Jim, spurred on by Frankie’s performance, also sprinted away from his competition to claim another win.

With Kingswood’s relay teams consistently improving and many of the younger athletes growing in confidence, there is much excitement for the second half of the season.

Whilst the pupils were at Millfield, they were delighted to see Old Kingswoodian Max Gauntlett who is now working at Millfield and is training to become a teacher.

His younger sister, who captained the Girls’ Athletics team in 2016, has just been appointed as the Athletics Captain at Harvard University.
