Kingswood School is situated on a magnificent 200-acre site in Lansdown, Bath, and offers an inclusive boarding and day community that is free of pretension and balances academic rigour, strength in the arts and sport, traditional values and outstanding pastoral care with a forward-thinking, can-do approach. Both the Prep School (nine months - 11 years) and the Senior School (11 - 18 years) offer a broad, holistic education, in which pupils are encouraged to develop self-assurance and high levels of personal motivation. In this environment, pupils achieve astonishing successes as they constantly progress well beyond their natural potential.
Academic results at Kingswood are consistently excellent. In recent years, Kingswood has been ranked in the top 5% nationally for added-value, and raw results regularly place it in the top 10 co-educational boarding or boarding/day schools. Virtually all students go on to attend university; an average of more than 80% of all Kingswood students achieve the coveted A*-B grades required for entry into Russell Group universities.
The School was rated as excellent in every category in its latest Independent School Inspectorate (ISI) inspection. Among the categories praised strongly by the inspection team were teaching and learning, pastoral care, extra-curricular provision, boarding and the spiritual, moral, social and cultural development of pupils.
Do all the good you can, by all the means you can, in all the ways you can, in all the places you can, at all the times you can, to all the people you can, as long as ever you can.
Kingswood is a welcoming, inclusive community in which students are challenged to develop their own talents while encouraging others to do the same. Kingswood promotes confidence, open-mindedness and tolerance along with creativity and a spirit of enquiry. Academic achievement takes place within the context of all-round personal development, and high standards are combined with a sense of responsibility and service. Kingswood students excel on a personal level while also making a real difference to the lives of others.
The Arts are extremely strong at Kingswood, with excellent art, music, drama, and design and technology departments inspiring true creativity and opportunities to both challenge existing principles and explore new concepts. Drama productions, concerts, festivals, exhibitions, professional masterclasses and trips ensure that The Arts are celebrated at Kingswood and that standards are consistently high.
In true boarding school style, Kingswood is open all hours and offers a home-away-from-home atmosphere. Flexibility and support for working parents are very much part of the Kingswood ethos. Parents of day pupils can take advantage of early-morning breakfast, late stay with supper and prep or the option to board overnight in one of our warm and cosy boarding houses while knowing their children are surrounded by friends and looked after by dedicated staff.
Kingswood offers more than 100 co-curricular activities to pupils during the week and at weekends. These include, among others: Model United Nations, script writing, fashion and textiles, kayaking, climbing and outdoor pursuits. There is something for everyone, and students at Kingswood are encouraged to join in and develop as many new skills as possible.
Kingswood is widely recognised as one of the top schools for sport in the South-West, with students competing at both national and international levels. We are fortunate to have strong links with various professional clubs such as Bath Rugby; we work with Team Bath at Bath University so that we can support gifted and talented sportsmen and women in fulfilling their athletic potential. However, our games philosophy at Kingswood is very much "sport for all", and we believe in encouraging all students, whether they be on the A, B, C or D teams, to be the best they can.
Do come and visit and see for yourself what Kingswood has to offer and experience the School’s warm and friendly community first-hand. We look forward to meeting you.
