The Autumn term Business Networking event was once again an evening of lively networking amongst a group of Parents, Old Kingswoodians, Staff and the wider Bath community.

Former Parent, and magician, Ethan King, entertained us with some magic at the start of the evening.

Our thanks to all who joined us and we look forward to you joining as at the next event on Friday 6 March 2020.

For more information please contact Michele Greene, Alumni and Development Officer.

Donation supports Music at Kingswood Prep School

Mrs Cross, Head of Music at Kingswood Prep School, reports that she, the music team and children at KPS, are delighted to have taken delivery of four fantastic new pianos for the music department in the Prep School.  This has been made possible by the very generous donation from former parent and current Governor at Kingswood, Danny Lau.

They now have a superb new Kawai GL50 Grand Piano in black ebony, two Kawai K300 upright pianos in black ebony, and a Yamaha Clavinova CVP709 also in black ebony.  These pianos are making an instant and incredible difference to the quality of musical learning and musical experience for the children.

The two upright pianos are in the main piano teaching rooms and are being used five days a week by piano pupils from age 4 to 11.  The touch and quality of sound is excellent and many children have already told her how much easier they are to play than the old pianos they used to have.  Teachers have remarked on the tonal quality and said that it makes it much easier to teach the finer musical details to their pupils.  The grand piano has already been used in a concert and all the children in the school have tried playing it during their class music lessons.  They have been particularly interested in what it looks like inside and in finding out how the levers and hammers all work.

The clavinova is being used every day for choir and orchestral rehearsals and in class lessons for singing and composition work.  It is also used in assemblies and will be played for productions and plays later this term.  Many parents have popped into school to see the new pianos and to try them out for themselves.  These pianos are certainly ensuring that music remains at the very heart of our school and we are all exceedingly grateful for the generous donations that made it possible to have them in our new music department.

Looking ahead, Mrs Cross hopes to replace the other two old upright pianos with 2 more Kawai K300 Upright Pianos, to add a colourful musical carpet to the main classroom, and then to develop the area behind the classroom, outside, in order to make it into a musical garden, with beautiful plants and outdoor instruments so that the children can go outside and make music together either in lessons or just at playtimes.

Heart of Kingswood Prep School Campaign

The Heart of School Campaign was launched in November 2017 seeking philanthropic support for the new Prep School. We were thrilled to receive over £100,000 towards equipment for the new Music Department and the Katie Pillinger Drama studio.

Our first Development and Alumni Gap Year Student, Theo Gammie (Middle House - 2011-2018), is travelling before heading to Oxford Brookes to study Architecture. Below are some pictures sent by Theo on his travels with Rudyard, the Kingswood bear.
