Kingswood School
The 1748 Society

'Ensuring the good of the past becomes the great of the future.'

Formerly known as the John Wesley Society, membership is made up of our past pupils and staff who have happy memories of Kingswood.  Putting something back for future generations by pledging to leave us a legacy is important to them. The Society has an annual '1748' lunch at the end of the Spring Term at Kingswood, when members are invited to return and see the sort of difference being made for the pupils of today and for those still to come.

How Your Legacy Can Help

Back in 1748 John Wesley wanted to create a very special school and he succeeded with the support and generosity of his friends.  Since then Thomas Ferens' donation enabled the creation of most of the main teaching centre in the School; Thomas Farnworth helped fund the building which now provides the School with its wonderful arts centre; the Posnett family provided funding for scholarships and built the original library in the heart of the School - now known as the Posnett Gallery which houses the John Wesley archives and provides an excellent reception and meeting room. Sir Arthur Dixon helped create the building named after him, without which generations of sixth formers would have been deprived of 'The Dixon" and the opportunities that it has provided for fun, friendship and study.

More recently, Naomi Price, the wife of a former pupil, bequeathed 'High Vinnalls' as a boarding house for the Preparatory School, and the family of Joseph Oswald Heap were able to ensure that his desire to support his old school came true with the establishment of a brand new multi-media library situated in the Moulton Hall.

The impact of the collected gifts of many others helped to create the Theatre and the Sports Hall as well as the purchase of the Summerhill Estate which so beautifully houses today's Preparatory School.

By leaving a legacy to Kingswood, you can help to ensure that our pupils will continue to enjoy the best facilities possible.  If you are interested in helping us in this way please contact Angela Dudley-Warde, our Development Director, (telephone 01225 734243 or email development@kingswood.bath.sch.uk), who will be able to tell you more about this scheme.
