Learning Support

At Kingswood, our Learning Support department plays a key role in helping pupils with identified learning needs thrive. We support all students on the SEND Register, ensuring every teacher is equipped with a detailed, up-to-date Pupil Profile to deliver tailored, effective support in the classroom.

These collaborative documents are developed with pupils and parents, outlining strengths, challenges, and strategies that work best. Regular reviews ensure they reflect any changes, helping staff adjust their teaching accordingly.

Some pupils receive one-to-one sessions with our qualified Specialist Teachers. These lessons are flexible and closely aligned with classroom content, helping students build skills and confidence in real time. They are held during Private Study periods.

All new pupils are screened by the Learning Support team to identify any potential learning difficulties early on. Where appropriate, pupils may be invited for further internal assessments to ensure timely and effective support.

Teachers receive ongoing training in SEND best practices through INSET, twilight sessions, and online learning. A comprehensive Teacher Toolkit supports staff in understanding and responding to a range of learning needs, including those without formal diagnosis.

Referrals can be made by teachers, parents, or pupils. We believe collaboration between school and home, alongside early action, is the best path to pupil success.

All access arrangements must meet JCQ regulations and are assessed in-school. Please consult the Head of Learning Support before commissioning private assessments, as they may not meet exam board criteria.

Our dedicated Centre provides a quiet, supportive environment for lessons and independent study. It’s a valued space for learning and recharging throughout the school day.
