The main purpose of Study Support is to provide individual tailored programmes of skills-based lessons to those students identified as having specific learning difficulties. Individual Support Programmes (ISPs) are provided for these students, and all teaching staff are made aware of pupils' strengths and vulnerabilities. In addition, the teaching staff are actively engaged in identifying students with possible learning difficulties which come to light during the course of an academic year and work closely with the Study Support Department and tutors to make sure these pupils are supported. The level of intervention provided depends on need and the department works closely with both parents and teaching staff, ensuring reasonable adjustments are made within the school environment and, if required, access arrangements set up for examinations.
However, Study Support at Kingswood is also a broad service offered to all of our students at any age. The department provides drop-in sessions for students who require support in a particular aspect of their work or with general organisation. All Year 7 students are screened upon entry and individual pupils are monitored closely with appropriate action taken where necessary. Individual support is provided to help develop skills for independent learning so that every pupil at Kingswood is able to be the best he or she can be.
