As the senior pupils within the school, sixth formers are encouraged to take the lead in many areas of school life. In the Lower Sixth, some students take on the role of prefect in our Junior house, Westwood, working with teachers in mentoring pupils in Years 7 and 8. In the Upper Sixth there is the opportunity to become a School or House prefect, helping with the organisation of many aspects of the running of the school. Leadership opportunities exist in other areas, including in IT, as study mentors, as library prefects, and in co-curricular activities such as sport and music. The School Council also provides sixth formers with an opportunity to share their ideas about all aspects of school life.
All these positions of responsibility allow our sixth formers to develop a range of skills, from having the confidence to speak in public to being able to collaborate with others in working towards a common goal. They are greatly valued by our students, and are an integral part of the Kingswood Sixth Form experience.
