The well-being of all of our pupils is of the utmost importance to us. Daily pastoral support is provided by all of the staff, overseen by the House parents and the Deputy Head (Pastoral), Mr Gordon Opie. The Head of Boarding, Miss Angie Wright, and the School Chaplain, Rev. David Hull, are also on hand to support our pupils, whatever their needs.
Concern for every pupil is fundamental to what we do at Kingswood. Our objective is to ensure that all of our students are given the opportunity to fulfil their potential in the huge range of opportunities on offer, be it in the academic, artistic or sporting fields or through the extra-curricular activities on offer. Pupils are also educated about a variety of topics such as on-line safety, sex education, drugs and alcohol awareness, and eating disorders through PSHCE lessons (Personal, Social, Health and Citizenship Education) as well as through tutorials and assemblies.
The House system is at the heart of our pastoral support structure. There are seven Houses each run by an experienced Housemaster or Housemistress supported by a Deputy and a team of tutors. The tutor, who takes direct responsibility for individual boarding and day pupils at the school, is the first point of contact for parents. There are regular target setting and review meetings for each student and communication with home, as appropriate, is very much part of this process.
In addition to this support Kingswood has excellent facilities for health care. The Medical Centre is available 24 hours a day staffed by three nurses, with doctors in attendance twice a week. The school also employs an independent school counsellor. You can read more about our Medical Centre.
During their time at Kingswood, we aim to equip our pupils with a strong set of moral values to guide them through their lives, based on our founder John Wesley's teaching to, "Do all the good you can; By all the means you can; In all the ways you can; In all the places you can; At all the times you can; To all the people you can; As long as ever you can."
Kingswood School was rated as "Excellent" for its pastoral care in the latest ISI Inspection Report.
