To see what has been happening in Westwood recently please visit our Westwood House blog.

Westwood House, the Junior Boarding House for pupils in Years 7 and 8, is run by Mr and Mrs Duke who live in the House with their daughter.  Mrs Curtis, the Senior Resident Assistant Boarding Housemistress, who lives next door with her family, Mr Thatcher who is the Resident Assistant Boarding Housemaster and three Matrons. In addition to the 45 boarders in the House, 145 day children also use Westwood as their base for the first two years of their schooling at Kingswood which means that the House is always very busy and full of life!

There are also 14 academic tutors attached to Westwood who meet with their tutees every morning. The tutors get to know these pupils really well, are the first port of call for any academic concerns and write reports on their tutees' progress, attitude and behaviour as well as ensuring that every child has a full, varied and balanced activity programme. Twenty Lower Sixth girls and boys are also appointed as Westwood Prefects who act as role models for the pupils, support the tutors and provide weekend support for the boarders.

Westwood also gives opportunities for leadership through the House system to pupils in Year 8. Westwood pupils and staff elect Heads and Deputies of the four Houses (Posnett, Cusworth, Hamilton and Beckford) to help organise inter-Westwood competitions. In addition, all of the children have the opportunity to represent the views of Westwood on the School Council which meets with the House staff weekly, the Deputy Head twice a term and Head of Boarding termly. Westwood is extremely well equipped with lots of play and games areas. On the ground floor is the Year 8 Girls common room with comfy sofas and a television, locker rooms for sports kit, a music practise room, well used by the boarders and, a large kitchen/dining room where the boarders have breakfast and enjoy cooking the occasional meal at the weekend. There are also four games rooms - two with table football tables and two with pool tables - which are very popular and are particularly well used after school.

On the first floor, Westwood has its own library with a large range of books, computers and board games. The library is often used by the boarders to do their prep at the weekends. Homework is always supervised. There is also a large common room which is the full width of the house and is also used for whole House events such as meetings and the Westwood Concert. The boarders lounge, also on this floor, is available in the evenings for watching television/dvds in free time and has a very popular wifi console!

The Second and Third Floors house the spacious boarders' bedrooms, which all have comfortable beds, wardrobes, under bed drawers, noticeboards, desks and chairs, plastic tuck boxes for food and boxes for games clothes. There are also bathrooms and a large laundry. In the summer there is an outdoor tennis and patio area which is well used on warm evenings for ball games, football and tennis as well as grass areas for ball games and summer camping.
