Upper House is a day house for 91 boys in Years 9-13 and is housed in the Piazza, in the heart of the main school. Registration is carried out in the House at 8.25 am every morning and between 2 pm and 2.15 pm every lunchtime. The House is a social area for the boys to relax in and it is also where their lockers are to be found. The House is twinned with School House.
Upper is run by Mr Roger White, who also teaches mathematics. He is assisted by Mr Daniel Darwin who teaches history and politics. The Upper House tutor team comprises nine experienced tutors who each take care of a group of approximately 10 boys. The tutors are responsible for the boys academic progress, co-curricular involvement and pastoral welfare. They are the first point of contact regarding academic or pastoral matters for parents. Tutorials, for all tutor groups, are held every Tuesday after registration. In addition, tutors meet regularly with their tutees, on a one-to-one basis.
The Upper House Prefects, from the Upper Sixth Form, help foster a friendly atmosphere in the House and aid staff in various aspects of running the House. They organise House sports teams, competitions and social events as well as initiating any charity work. Upper House is a comfortable space for the boys to relax and socialise in. It has some excellent facilities including a television, snooker table, table football and a small kitchen. A number of social events take place there during the course of the year.
Every term sees a number of inter-house competitions involving all year groups. In addition, Upper House is also twinned with School House – one of the girls' houses. Joint activities take place at least once a term. In the past these have included: bowling, ice skating, paint balling, curry nights and theatre trips. There is also a joint house event at the end of each term; wide games in the Autumn Term, a quiz in the Spring Term and a farewell BBQ for leavers in the Summer Term. You can view a list of joint events with School House and all Upper House Events. Find out more in the Upper House Handbook.
