School House

If you would like to see what has been happening in School House recently please visit our School House blog.

School House is a Sixth Form boarding house and a day house for girls in Years 9-13. The House aims to be a place where girls can grow with a sense of responsibility for themselves and others, learn to co-operate and support one another as members of a community and develop socially and intellectually. The Senior Housemistress is Miss Una Paver, who also teaches PE. She is supported by Miss Harriet Wilson as Resident Assistant who also teaches Religious Studies, seven tutors and two matrons who play an important role in fostering a friendly atmosphere as well as organising cleaning and laundry.

The tutors are responsible for the girls academic progress, co-curricular involvement and pastoral welfare and are the first point of contact regarding academic matters for parents. There are organised group tutorials every week and tutors also liaise regularly with their tutees on a one-to-one basis and evening prep is supervised by a member of staff.  In addition, there is a team of House Prefects in the Upper Sixth, including a Head of House and Head of Boarding, who help the House staff run the House, supervise prep for the younger girls and play an active role in the pastoral care of the younger pupils. The Prefects also organise House teams, competitions and social events as well as initiating charity work.

School House is located right in the heart of the school and has cosy and warm facilities including a large common room, two computers with skype facilities, a well-equipped kitchen, laundry room, shower rooms and double and single bedrooms. The girls in School House are welcome to invite visitors to the house, just as they would into their homes. Each House member may invite two guests in activity time, who are signed on upon arrival, into the communal areas. Boarders are often invited to the homes of local day students for birthday parties, special events or get-togethers and, getting to know local families is of real benefit for those far away from home.

Accessing Bath for boarders is extremely easy and an ideal location to replenish supplies and enjoy some weekend shopping!  School House is also twinned with Upper House – one of the boys' houses with trips taking place at least once a term. In the past these have included: bowling, ice skating, shopping, paint balling, curry nights, quiz nights and theatre trips. There is also a joint house event at the end of each term – Wide Games in the autumn, Quiz in the spring and a BBQ and farewell to leavers in the summer term. Find out more about the House Events organised during the course of the year. You can download a copy of the School House Handbook.
