At Kingswood Prep School, we are lucky to have extensive and beautiful grounds in which our pupils can play, learn and discover. Every child is equipped with waterproof clothing so they can make the most of the great outdoors, whatever the weather. Our wide range of outdoor educational activities includes den-building, environmental conservation, science projects, learning to build and cook on fires and freely chosen play.
We have developed our own Passport to Learning programme, which is designed to enhance children’s learning through outdoor experience. Passport to Learning focuses on developing personal qualities and thinking skills, enhancing abilities in areas such as inquisitiveness, adaptability, resilience, morality, communication, thoughtfulness, cooperation, respect and enquiry.
These lessons take full advantage of KPS’s fantastic outdoor spaces. Learning in this way creates an educational context that encourages children to make connections experientially, enabling a deeper understanding.
From Early Years through their time at the Prep School, experiences like these help children to approach education and later, employment and training with the transferable skills required to face the opportunities and challenges of a rapidly changing world.
In Years 3-6, children are challenged through our activity programme. Climbing, canoeing, outdoor adventure, leadership skills, archery, camping and weekend excursions are all on offer through the programme.
Children in Pre-Prep and Prep also have access to a range of after-school outdoor clubs at which they can continue to develop their skills while having fun in the great outdoors.
