A Musical First Term for Year 7

Our Year 7 musicians have enjoyed taking part in concerts and performances throughout their first term at the Senior School.

Westwood Voices and Westwood Orchestra (made up entirely of Year 7 and 8 students) enjoyed performing at their own Carol Service at St Stephen’s Church at the end of term, alongside other ensembles in the Senior School Christmas Concert, and in informal concerts throughout the term. In the Spring Term our Year 7 Music Programme kicks into full swing, offering a dynamic curriculum that gives every pupil the chance to learn an orchestral instrument, with specialist teaching in woodwind, brass or strings.

Lessons take place in small groups as part of the wider school timetable, with instruments provided for all, and students come together to develop ensemble skills, experiencing the excitement of performing as part of a group and at informal showcases. This builds confidence, creativity and musical understanding from the very start of their time at the Senior School.

For those students keen to continue their musical journey, there are plenty of opportunities on offer to them following an inspiring introduction to Music at Kingswood where every child is encouraged discover new talents, enjoy the richness of creative learning and thrive. Watch this space for updates as the Year 7s continue through the next stage of their musical education at Kingswood.
