'Every Child Matters’ is not merely a catchy slogan; it is a reflection of the value that is placed on each member of our community. The Christian (Methodist) foundation of Kingswood requires attention to the broad needs of each child. That each individual is uniquely created and loved by God is the starting point of the educational philosophy of the School, and the proper development of the individual’s personal and social life is of central importance at Kingswood. This is reflected in the funding and provision of a specialist room located centrally in the School.
PSHE is taught to complement the pastoral work done in many other parts of the school; in the Houses by tutors and house staff, at the Medical Centre, and in assemblies and chapel services. How we see and value ourselves, how we view and value other people in the community and beyond it, are some of the most important lessons that pupils take from the school when they leave.
The programme aims to reflect the National Curriculum objectives in developing personal wellbeing, economic wellbeing and financial capability. All pupils at Kingswood receive lessons on Personal, Social and Health Education in Years 7-9 or through General Studies in Years 10-13.
PSHE is taught by a number of different teachers whose specialisations vary, (they are taken into consideration when forming the Years 10 and 11 General Studies programme) and who have the necessary skills to be able to discuss the breadth of issues covered by the subject.
