Year 6 at Kingswood Prep School have taken centre stage in (abridged!) productions of Romeo and Juliet and The Tempest. Every single child took to the boards, having worked with their cast to decipher Shakespeare’s language and work through their creative ideas so that the storylines could be conveyed.
The Tempest was staged traditionally, using the beautiful costumes funded by Friends of Kingswood School and crafted by the inspired Tracey Chalkley and team. Romeo & Juliet was given a modern twist, with the feuding Montagues and Capulets being represented by eras – contemporary versus 1970s.
Hard work, combined with moments of fun, resulted in An Evening of Shakespeare at The Kingswood Theatre, which delighted and impressed the audience.
The Romeo & Juliet cast then went on to perform at The Tobacco Factory in Bristol. It was their first time performing in a professional theatre, alongside students from local senior schools who were performing Much Ado About Nothing and Twelfth Night. We were so proud to see how well they held their own. Bravo!
