Kingswood Pupils in Abbey Road Studios
Some of Kingswood's best orchestral musicians and singers have recorded a couple of Beatles' tracks for the forthcoming BBC Children in Need album to be released in the autumn. However, the recording of the sixty or so musicians was so impressive that the whole band has been invited to film the video in Studio Two of Abbey Road, the studio where the Beatles recorded many of their most famous songs!
Laura Cross, leader of the orchestra and Principal Musician at Kingswood, said she was thrilled to be performing in one of the most legendary studios in the world. As well as memorable moments inside Abbey Road, she has another ambition that will take her outside - “I can't wait to step onto the iconic zebra crossing with my violin case in-hand!” she said. “There are rumours of many famous musicians being filmed with us in the studio, but we'll have to wait and see!
And, as if that wasn't enough of a dream-come-true for the school pupils, Kingswood's 75-strong full symphony orchestra and 80-strong junior choir were asked to accompany Hayley Westenra and Sir Terry Wogan's TOGS at a massed recording of Paul McCartney's Frog Song in the grounds of Longleat on September 17th. The orchestra and massed choir were be conducted by Director of Music at Kingswood, Richard Mainwaring. “The pupils worked so hard to produce two fabulous recordings of the Beatles' tracks at the end of last term. And to now be able to film the video at Abbey Road, along with perform with Sir Terry and his TOGS, all for such a wonderful cause, is a great privilege. We're all pinching ourselves quite often these days just to check this is all really happening!"
