And The Beat Goes On!

Over 30 drummers at Kingswood School kept a beat going on a drumkit for 10 hours on Friday 9th October in aid of the local charity Hope and Homes for Children.  The venture was part of a term of fundraising for the charity by Kingswood Music Department, and will culminate in the release of an album of original music which will be recorded in a remote Scottish castle in December. On Friday, all of the drummers of Kingswood took it in turns to play for between 15 minutes and half an hour, in a sort of tag-drumming event. To make the day even more fun, Kingswood's amazing drum-teaching maestro, Mr Julian Scott, entered into a lunchtime “drum-off” with three of Kingswood's staff drummers (Director of Development Mrs Angela Dudley-Warde, Head of Art Mr Cameron Main and Director of Music Mr Richard Mainwaring). The lunchtime spectacle of four drummers battling it out for the title of best drummer was witnessed by many Kingswood pupils, each of whom paid an entrance fee to witness the carnage! And then, to finish the day, the final drum student, grade 8 drummer Harry ended his 30 minute slot by starting the Music Department's Ensemble Fortnight Concert with the Kingswood Percussion Ensemble's version of the theme from Star Wars.
