All books must be checked out at the library desk. The date they are due for return will be stamped inside and the security tags will be de-activated.
What happens if I forget to return my books to the Library?
You will be sent an email reminder and asked to return your books. If you still don’t return them your tutor will be informed and, after a term, your parents will receive a letter.
Where can I study in the Library?
You can study in the main area of the Library and use the computers there. The area on the stage is reserved for sixth formers to use. Wireless laptops are available during lesson time. There is a printer at the Library desk which you can use to print black and white and colour copies of your assignments.
How are the resources arranged?
Fiction is arranged by category (e.g. Thrillers or Fantasy Fiction). Information resources are arranged by the Dewey number scheme which gives a number to each subject e.g. science books can be found in the 500s and books about energy at 531.6.
How should I behave in the Library?
Students must respect other students whilst they are using the Library. If you are noisy you will be asked to leave. Please remember to turn off your mobile phone.
What do I do if I can’t find the information I need?
The Library Catalogue contains a record of all the resources in the Library and includes recommended websites and podcasts. You can access the Library Catalogue when you log on to the computer anywhere in school or from home. Choose the Heap Library button on the Intranet Homepage. From here you can type in keywords to search the catalogue, check on the books you have borrowed and renew them. You can also reserve books that have been borrowed by other students. You will be sent an email telling you when they are available for you to collect from the Library.
What if the Library doesn’t have the book or film I want?
You can complete a request form or send an email to the Librarian for any resource you cannot find in the Library Catalogue and that you need for your studies.
