Congratulations from the Drama department to two of our sixth form Drama Scholars, Oscar Batterham and Evie Beaven, who were recently successful in their auditions for the National Youth Theatre. Both have been invited to take part in the summer workshops in London. Their success means that they are now members of the National Youth Theatre until they turn twenty one and will be invited to audition for future NYT productions once they have completed the workshops. The students are obviously thrilled to be a part of this and will join fellow sixth form students Adam Lloyd-James and Katie Phillips as part of this highly prestigious company. “This is turning into a fantastic year for Drama at Kingswood,” said Mr Harding, our Head of Drama and Theatre Studies. “Not only do we have one of our younger Drama Scholars playing the lead in a West End Musical (Ollie Gardner in “Billy Elliot”), but we have also had one of our Upper Sixth students, Charlie O'Connor, offered a place at all three of the top universities to study Drama in the United States (University of New York, University of Los Angeles and California and University of South California). Now we have more members of the National Youth Theatre than ever before! There really is a great buzz around the subject at school at the moment.” This summer's production for Years 7 to 10, ‘Bugsy Malone', has now been cast and rehearsals have started this week. It will be our largest production to date with over one hundred and twenty students involved! Information on how to obtain tickets for this will be sent out in the half term mailing. If you have any questions or queries in the meantime, please contact the music secretary, Mrs Hayley Collins.
