Kingswood Students perform at 'Classic Club Ha-Ha!'

A packed theatre was filled with laughter on Thursday 25th February as nine brave students from the Lower Sixth and Upper Sixth demonstrated their considerable comic acting skills. The first half of the evening belonged to ‘Exit Stage Right' with their unique style of improvised comedy. Hannah Bishay, Oscar Batterham, Harry Dawson, Sam Elliott and Charlie O'Connor performed eight improvised formats which had us laughing at an array of bizarre and highly amusing situations such as three actors who were limited to how many words they could speak; an original tale about Cheryl Cole and some socks; performers speaking each others lines for one another and Sam and Hannah punting whilst demonstrating a variety of heightened emotions!

The second half of the evening was a chance to see some fantastic comic acting from the ‘Exit Stage Right' team who were joined by Evie Beaven, Emily Clarke, Will Morrison and Katie Phillips to recreate six classic comedy sketches. The lucky members of the audience saw a great original comic routine form Charlie as he “played” all of the instruments and sang all the parts to Jamiroquai's Cosmic Girl. There was then a performance of the classic sketches ‘Mastermind' from the Two Ronnies and 'Two Soups' by Victoria Wood with Katie superbly rising to the challenge of playing Julie Walter's infamous old waitress followed by a Peter Cook and Dudley Moore sketch about a one legged man auditioning for the part of Tarzan. Everyone had their own particular favourite moments of the evening but 'Gerald the Gorilla' performed by Evie, Will and Oscar was certainly a highlight for all. Another hysterical sketch about crosswords from the 'Two Ronnies' acted by the whole group followed by Hannah and Charlie performing Victoria Wood's 'Ballad of Barry and Freda' rounded off a truly memorable night. Mr Francis and his technical team of Lilit Mesyan, Toby Russell, Tahmid Chowdhury and Parveen Jones must also be commended on the contributions they made to such and thoroughly professional and highly entertaining evening. Hopefully we will get a chance to see some repeat performances of these sketches in the near future.
