Former Kingswood pupil to realise dream at Twickenham
On Wednesday this week, Alex Carlton-Porter, former Kingswood pupil who is currently in his second year at UWIC,
Cardiff, will be running out onto the pitch at Twickenham as the No.11 player for their
Rugby 1st team – a dream since a young boy and one he is very proud to have achieved. Alex left Kingswood as Sportsman of the Year in 2006 and played for the Eastern Suburbs in
Australia during his gap year. He is currently undertaking a Sports Management Degree at UWIC and has played in their 1st XV squad since arriving.

Alex in the semi-finals against Hartbury at Newbury on 24th March 2010. |
He only missed last year's finals due to a broken arm after colliding with a Bargoed player's head when UWIC played UWE Hartbury WIC in the Welsh League East Division! UWIC came second last year, but this year exacted revenge by taking Hartbury down 21-20 in a very tight semi-final.
For the final on Wednesday they are pitched against
Loughborough
University (who beat Leeds Metropolitan Uni) and as the squad is currently points clear in the Welsh League and is scheduled to be in the
USA in June playing
American
University teams, they are ready for the battle. Alex, (known as ‘Ceeps’ to all his friends), has made the wing his own this year and is know for his speed and fearless tackling ability.
Alex said, “I have loved playing rugby ever since I joined
Bath Mini’s at the age of 7, all the way through to
Bath
Academy. I think my passion for the game comes from the fantastic coaches both there and also the great support and encouragement I had for all my sports from the sports staff at
Kingswood. This is probably my biggest game and I just can’t wait to play at the home of English rugby!”
UWIC has their First team, Second Team and Ladies team all playing at Twickenham on the 21st April in these finals.
We wish them all good luck !
