La Piel Que Habito – The Skin I Live In
The Spanish department recently took nine Sixth Form students to see the latest Pedro Almodóvar film. As is typical with his films it was certainly a bizarre yet incredibly engaging piece of cinema! Below is a film review from Abbie Winton in Year 12.
"Almodóvar has really managed to push the boundaries in his new film ‘La Piel Que Habito’ (The Skin I live in). Antonio Banderas stars as a plastic surgeon with a vengeance after both his wife and daughter commit suicide. After recently developing a new pain resistant skin, he manages to find the perfect human guinea pig. The plot slowly begins to reveal itself as even more twisted as first perceived, however all becomes clear towards the end.
The reaction was very mixed, but all agreed the film managed to capture our attention and kept us interested throughout. I’d definitely recommend it as it's very good at throwing you when you think you’ve got it figured out. I would however warn the faint hearted as bits can get very gory!
We would all like to thank Mr Walker for organising the trip and Mr Mackridge for joining us and we are all looking forward to future trips with the Spanish Society."
