Our hockey players enjoyed double success in the recent county tournaments.

On Friday the 12 February the Under 14 squad travelled to Clifton for the Avon County Championships. Kingswood were drawn in a very tough group but dispatched Wellsway 9-2, Clifton 2-1 and Monkton Combe 4-1 to reach the final against Prior Park. Despite going down two goals in the first five minutes and Prior looking the most dominant, Kingswood did not let the pressure overwhelm them and pulled a goal back to make it 2-1 to Prior at half time. After an intense team talk the under 14s came out fighting and took the game by the scruff of its neck, working solidly as a unit and working hard off the ball to put Prior on the back foot, eventually scoring three superb goals to win the tournament 4-2. They will now take part in the West Regional Tournament on Sunday 7 March.

The U13s also played extremely well in their Tournament at Monkton Prep School on Sunday 28 February with a 5-1 win over Prior Park followed by a 4-2 victory over Monkton which meant the final game against Clifton College would decide the tournament. A well worked goal from a short corner early in the second half saw Parimal Shresthra deflect a strike from Hywel Jones into the net. Both of these players had been a real attacking threat all day. However, Clifton quickly equalised to prompt a nervous final 5 minutes and Kingswood were indebted to Owen Waters gritty defence and some fine saves by Goalkeeper Charlie Beaven to hold on for the draw. Kingswood were, therefore, crowned champions as a result of their superior goal difference and will also progress to the regional rounds as a result.
