The Geography Department seeks to enable students to make sense of their world, and to understand the processes, both human and physical, that shape it. We aim to do this by instilling in pupils the desire to investigate the world in which they live and identify the connections, from the global to the local.
Geography is a contemporary and dynamic subject and this is part of its attraction for both teachers and students. Issues linked to geography are constantly in the news. They range from globalisation and population concerns, to do with ageing, migration, HIV/AIDS to energy supply, climate change, and sustainable use of the Earth’s natural resources and environments. These issues raise crucial questions about our impact on the planet, our interdependence and the sort of future society that we wish to create.
Geography is taught by subject specialists, throughout the School. All students study geography at Key Stage 3, and they cover a range of physical and human topics. Fieldwork remains an integral part of Geography and the department try to get out into ‘God’s classroom’ as much as possible.
