The Kingswood Curriculum

We are keen to give our pupils intellectual challenges and we encourage independent thought at all times.  Active participation in lessons through discussion, practical activities, educational visits and role play is considered vital to our pupils' progress.  Our curriculum builds on pupils' past educational experiences and allows them to achieve deeper understanding of and greater competence in each aspect of the curriculum as they move through Kingswood.  Formative assessment plays a central role in lessons, contributing to a learning experience which is a genuinely personal partnership between pupils, teachers and parents.

Sarah Dawson, Deputy Head Academic

ICT
To equip students for life in a world where they will increasingly need technological and information literacy skills, ICT is taught as a discrete subject and is also incorporated in other areas of the curriculum.
Learning Support
Pupils who have joined the school with identified specific learning difficulties are offered target support through individual sessions with specialist teachers.
Mathematics
It is the collective goal of the department to enable every student to develop his or her academic ability and enjoy a positive experience in a stimulating environment.
Modern Languages

In a world becoming metaphorically smaller speaking just one language is not sufficient. A foreign language gives us access to another culture, and our lives take on a new dimension.

Music
All students will leave Kingswood School with a range of positive musical experiences. We endeavour to ignite a spark of musical interest and curiosity that will be life-long.
Physical Education
Kingswood has over a decade’s experience in delivering Physical Education at both GCSE and A level.
PSHE
‘Every child matters’ is not merely a catchy slogan; it is a reflection of the value that is placed on each member of our community.
Religious Studies
Students are encouraged to discuss and evaluate differing denominational responses to ethical questions such as, ‘Should we advance scientific techniques without considering the value of human life?'
Science
In a world becoming metaphorically smaller speaking just one language is not sufficient. A foreign language gives us access to another culture, and our lives take on a new dimension.
