Special congratulations go to ‘Old Kingswoodian' Jesse Honey [KS 1988-93] on winning the BBC Mastermind contest earlier this week. Jesse scored 37 in the final of the show with his specialist subject the Anglican Cathedral in Liverpool. Vital revision on the Tube and hours of testing from his wife helped to prepare him for the challenge. Jesse is a town planner and now lives in London. He reached the final after completing rounds on the Borough of Wandsworth and the life and work of the architect, Antoni Gaudi. He chose the subject of the Cathedral in Liverpool because of an interest in church buildings. Talking of his victory Jesse said, “It's absolutely fantastic. I'm really, really pleased to have won it.” He said he had felt “completely unreal” when quizmaster John Humphreys announced he had won. “I was in a wide-eyed daze. It's a great honour.” He said he had written out key facts on his specialist subject and tested himself on his half-hour journeys to and from work on the London Underground.
